Pappy's Paddock Shiraz is indicative of all that is fine quality Barossa Shiraz. Made from grapes grown on early Barossan land grant acreage, set on the rolling hills surrounding the township of Rowland Flat, the wine is specific to the location and thus experiences the specialness and differences that each vintage brings.

The wine is a full flavoured Barossa style with an aromatic Shiraz nose, clear deep brilliant colour and a complexity of flavour and length of palate. The ageing of the wine in seasoned American oak hogsheads for at least a year prior to bottling develops good wood characters on both nose and palate. A multiple medal winner, adjudged as one of Australia's finest (Polish 'Wine' Magazine), Decanter Magazine's Wine of the Month Award Winner, Top Finisher in Great Australian Shiraz Challenge, this wine is classic Barossa class.

THE VINEYARD

The wines of ‘1847’ are produced from grapes grown in vineyards located in and adjacent to the Rowland Flat Township. The soils of the area are of mainly Terra Rossa which comprises red brown sandy loams mostly overlaying a limestone base. The Township is approx 190 m above sea level, about 40km inland from the coast with an average rainfall of about 500 – 550 mm. The grapes for Pappy’s Paddock Shiraz are grown in full sun positions thus stressing the vine to allow a full concentration of flavors.

WINEMAKING

The Shiraz was picked mid March after what was a summer ripening period which saw consistent hot weather thus providing quality grapes with high beaume and balanced acid giving ideal material of wine of exceptional character. The wine was aged in American Oak Hogsheads for twelve months prior to bottling and was made to age well over a prolonged period. Classic
Barossa Class.

TASTING NOTES

A wine of outstanding character with big rich fruit flavors, well balanced with the influence of American Oak. Full bodied but without heavy palate, powerful Black Berry, Licorice and Dark Chocolate. Bright Dark Red – Purple colors. This is a brilliant example of Fine Barossa Shiraz.
